It's understandable that a miscommunication like this could happen, especially if your closest friends dislike the person you encountered. It could absolutely colour your perception of any encounter, maybe not immediately or drastically but over time that can change. I'm not saying George had no part in this situation, should he have been cautious about this girl's age? Yeah, but it also isn't unreasonable of him to think she was older given they were drinking, she'd already been out at a party and that she'd not made her discomfort about their age difference clear to him. If you're under the legal age and drinking, you are committing a crime. Lots of kids do it, but that law is in place is to protect kids from encounters like that, where they don't know how they're feeling and they're concerned about something don't speak up. Things like this should be private affairs, I don't think she wanted people to figure out that she was talking about George, she might have just been sharing an encounter she had. If this was something she was sure 100% was wrong, she should have gone to the police and reported the incident. I'm not saying that means she's not telling the truth, or that she's any less valid in her feelings if she was stretching the truth, but she has dealt a real blow to George's public image and it wouldn't be amiss if she decided to do some soul searching before taking this to the police or apologising and trying to move on.
